Commercial and industrial solar

Commercial and Industrial Solar for Singapore Businesses

Turn an idle rooftop into lower operating costs and measurable clean energy. We take commercial solar from feasibility and permits to installation, monitoring and maintenance.

Who it is for

Rooftops that suit commercial solar

The best candidates have large, unshaded roofs and use most of their electricity in daylight hours.

Factories

Daytime production loads use solar as it is generated, which is where it earns the most.

Warehouses and logistics

Wide metal roofs take large arrays with clamp mounts and no drilling, and depots can feed EV chargers too.

Offices, showrooms and retail

Air-conditioning and lighting peak with the sun, so generation and demand line up.

Condominiums and campuses

MCSTs can offset common-area electricity such as lifts, pumps and car park lighting.

Feasibility

From feasibility study to commissioning

  1. 01

    Load profile

We review your electricity bills and interval data to size the system to your daytime demand.
  2. 02

    Roof and structure

Our Qualified Person, usually a professional engineer, checks the roof structure and designs the mounting.
  3. 03

    Proposal

System size, layout, expected generation, price and payback, with the assumptions stated.
  4. 04

    Permits

The QP obtains the permits your building needs, which can include BCA, URA and SCDF (EMA).
  5. 05

    Installation and connection

Installed around your operations, then commissioned by our Licensed Electrical Worker and connected to the grid.
  6. 06

    Licensing for large systems

Systems of 1 MWac and above may need an EMA Generation Licence and registration with the Energy Market Company. We flag this at feasibility.

Free roof report

Get a first look at your rooftop for free

Before a feasibility study, outline your roof on a satellite map for an indicative system size, generation and savings estimate.

  1. 1

    Find your building

Search your address and confirm your email with a one-time code.

  2. 2

    Outline your roof

Trace the roof areas you want to use on a satellite view of your building's roof.

  3. 3

    Get your report

Download a feasibility report with a proposed system size, yearly generation, and a cost and savings estimate.

An estimate, not a quotation. The report works from the outline you draw, not a measured survey. Shading, roof structure and your actual usage are confirmed at a site visit before we quote.

Pricing

Commercial solar cost

Your price

From S$1,280 per kWp

For context, EMA puts typical upfront costs at S$1,000 to S$1,600 per kWp, with maintenance of about 1% to 2% of the system cost a year. We quote after the feasibility review, because commercial prices depend on:

  • System size and roof area
  • Roof type and any structural strengthening
  • Cable routes, inverter rooms and switchgear
  • Access, lifting and working around operations
  • Permits and licensing for the system size

Buy outright

You own the system and every unit it generates from day one. EMA says most consumers break even in about seven years, and that larger systems and higher electricity use can shorten that.

Exporting surplus

How businesses are paid for exported solar

Weekends, holidays and shutdowns mean surplus. EMA sets out three ways to handle it.

Simplified Credit Treatment

For SP Group customers with less than 1 MWac of solar. Exports are credited to the bill at the regulated tariff minus grid charges, revised quarterly.

Enhanced Central Intermediary Scheme

For customers of an electricity retailer with less than 10 MWac. Exports are paid at half-hourly wholesale prices.

Non-exporting facility

If you do not want to be paid for exports, the system can be registered as non-exporting instead.

Sustainability

Solar and Singapore's clean energy target

Every kWh your system generates and uses on site is electricity you did not buy from the grid.

Rooftop solar also contributes to Singapore's national target, which EMA has raised to 3 gigawatt-peak by 2030 after reaching 2 GWp ahead of schedule.

Solar and EV charging

Power your fleet and car park chargers with solar

We install both solar and EV charging, so the array, the chargers and the energy management that connects them are designed as one system. Chargers that run during the day draw on your solar first, which raises the share of generation you use on site.

See our commercial and DC fast charging service, and the OCPP charging management platform we use to run chargers, billing and access.

Operations and maintenance

Operations and maintenance for commercial solar

Inspection and cleaning

Regular visual checks and panel cleaning to keep output up.

Back-end monitoring

Generation watched against expectations, so faults are caught early.

Electrical safety checks

Inverters, isolators and cabling tested and kept compliant.

Vegetation management

Keeping growth and debris clear of the array.

This is the scope EMA recommends. Read more about our solar maintenance and inspection service.

FAQ

Commercial solar questions

How much does commercial rooftop solar cost per kWp in Singapore?

EMA puts typical upfront costs at S$1,000 to S$1,600 per kilowatt-peak (kWp), with yearly maintenance of about 1% to 2% of the system cost. Commercial prices depend on system size, roof type, structural work, cable routes and the electrical connection, so we quote after a feasibility review of your site.

Can we finance the system instead of paying upfront?

We do not offer leases or instalment plans. Systems are bought outright, so you own the system and every unit it generates from day one.

What is the payback period for a factory or warehouse system?

EMA says "most consumers are likely to break even in about seven years", and that larger systems and higher electricity use can shorten that. Businesses that use most of their electricity during daylight hours consume more of their own generation, which is where solar earns the most. We model your payback from your actual load profile.

Is our roof structurally suitable, and who certifies it?

A Qualified Person, usually a professional engineer, checks the roof structure and designs the mounting. Reinforced concrete roofs can take ballasted or penetrating mounts, and metal seam roofs can use clamps that need no drilling. The QP also makes sure the layout meets SCDF fire-safety requirements.

What approvals does a commercial solar system need?

A Qualified Person obtains the permits the project needs, which can include BCA, URA and SCDF. A Licensed Electrical Worker commissions the system and applies for the electrical licences. Systems of 1 MWac and above may also need a Generation Licence from EMA and registration with the Energy Market Company.

How do businesses get paid for exported solar?

It depends on who you buy electricity from. SP Group customers with less than 1 MWac of solar can be credited under the Simplified Credit Treatment, at the regulated tariff minus grid charges, revised quarterly. Customers of an electricity retailer with less than 10 MWac can be paid under the Enhanced Central Intermediary Scheme at wholesale prices. If you do not want to export, you can register as a non-exporting facility instead.

Can solar power our EV chargers or fleet depot?

Yes. We install both, so the solar system, the chargers and the energy management that connects them are designed together. Chargers that run during the day use your solar generation first.

What maintenance does a commercial solar system need?

EMA lists regular inspection and cleaning, back-end monitoring, electrical safety checks and vegetation management, and estimates maintenance at about 1% to 2% of the system cost a year. We offer ongoing maintenance and monitoring support for the systems we install.
